200th Anniversary commission

Looking forward to the 200th anniversary of Lower Merion Baptist Church in Bryn Mawr, Pa., will have a New Work for that for 14 September 2008, commemorating their founding in, yes, 1808; Jackie and I have fond memories of serving there as, respectively, organist and choir director in the early ’80s; hm, still have ties from back thenearly ’80s, not 1808not being one to quit on a garment so easily. Jonathan Malone is the Pastor there, and has suggested something on Hebrews 12:1, 2, which is an excellent anniversary text, I think:

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. [KJV]
