The music for this comes from the “Gloria” movement of my Trombone Concerto, premiered by John Ilika with the Delaware Symphony in 1991, Carter Nice conducting. When the Westminster Brass, the resident quintet at Tenth Presbyterian Church, asked me for a fanfare-like piece to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of James Boice’s ministry there, I thought of this music as appropriate to the occasion.
That version was for the quintet expanded with extra brass and percussion. The current version adds two horns, and was premiered at a community concert in West Philadelphia conducted by Karl Middleman in 2006.
