Totentanz for guitar. 5′. 1994, rev. 2005. Premiere recording:

Written for Bill Ghezzi and premiered by him at the George Antheil Music Festival, Trenton, NJ, in 1994. I mention Totentanz in a fairly peripatetic ramble here about my composing for guitar. What I didn’t mention is that it began life as the middle movement of a work I’ve withdrawn, the Concerto for Cristal and Orchestra. That was written for the Cristal Baschet, and was premiered by Dennis James with the then-Chamber Symphony of Princeton (now the Princeton Symphony Orchestra), conducted by Mark Laycock. Looking at the Wikipedia article on the cristal, I see I am not mentioned as one of the composers for this instrument—well, serves me right for withdrawing the work.
