Canticle helps propel Blanton Alspaugh to a 2020 Grammy nomination for Producer of the Year, Classical. Canticle is a 65-minute work setting The Spiritual Canticle of St. John of the Cross. For chorus, three cellos, and percussion, it is listed with seven other CDs under Alspaugh’s name for this producer’s award.

Craig Hella Johnson and the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati commissioned the work in 2016 and recorded it in 2018 with Alspaugh and SoundMirror. It was released in November 2018 for this year’s Grammy consideration. The winners will be announced on January 26, 2020.

Canticle joins The Arc in the Sky in the 2020 Grammy nominations. The Arc in the Sky was nominated for Best Choral Performance by The Crossing, Donald Nally, conductor.
